John-Paris Kent began writing poems and short stories when he was quite young but he wasn't very good at finishing them. It also took him a long time to feel confident enough to show his work to other people. However in 2011 he took a short story writing course at City Lit in London, taught by Zoë Fairbairns, and it was a complete revelation. That year his flash fiction story Filament was Highly Commended at the Bridport Prize and the judge, A.L. Kennedy, said it managed to get "the whole of humanity into a remarkably small number of words." The following year his poem Ex-Girlfriends was shortlisted by Roger McGough and he was invited back to give a talk. He hasn't had time to send anything off for ages but in 2018 he graduated from the Faber Academy novel writing course. He lives in Hampshire with his wife, Kate, and they have three children. Unbelievable!
